Drilled or Undrilled? This topic comes up quite often… “Should I choose a drilled or an undrilled yoni egg?” “ Whats the difference between a drilled jade egg and an undrilled jade yoni egg?” “Will the egg get stuck if it’s not drilled?” “Does the hole affect the crystal energy?”
Choosing a drilled or nondrilled yoni egg is purely a personal preference and only you can decide which is best for your sacred space. There is no right or wrong choice. Let us break it down for you so you can come to your own conclusion.
The reason for the hole is so a string can be attached to the jade yoni egg for easy removal (think removing a tampon). The majority of newbies to the yoni egg practice are afraid the egg will get stuck, but rest assured that can not happen sisters. With the natural weight of the egg, it will always find its way out, especially when you have relaxed your muscles and give a little push. In the beginning you may prefer some assistance with the string as you get to know your yoni egg and sacred space, but a simple push is all you really need…and maybe the assistance of your fingers to scoop it out.
The other reason for the drilled yoni eggs is for advanced kegel exercise or vaginal weight lifting. You can add a string to your egg that will allow you to give a little tug to add resistance to the egg while you are practicing your kegel exercise, or you can attach weights to the end of the string of your yoni egg; this is known as vaginal weight lifting or vaginal kung fu, and it’s a really fun way to strengthen to your pelvic floor.
Then you ask, does the hole affect the crystal’s energy? There are a lot of rumors out there on this topic and most are coming from people forming their own opinions and biases on drilled vs. undrilled and not actual facts about crystal energy!
A hole has no effect on the structure of the crystal or its energy. The crystal has already been carved and tumbled, so the addition of a hole has no extra effect. Their ability to do energy work is still intact. The only difference between drilled and non is personal preference.
The spiritual qualities and energies of crystals, gemstones, minerals go back far beyond our written history. We know that our ancestors wore crystal jewelry for their metaphysical properties. For example, we know in ancient Rome that Emerald was associated with fertility and was worn as a necklace by women wishing for a fertility boost. Many other gems throughout history were also worn as jewelry. They had holes drilled (or somehow carved I guess) in them, just as drilled yoni eggs and jade eggs have. The art of processing crystals (carving, jewelry making, etc) has dated back as far as fifteen centuries ago. If carving, tumbling, drilling, etc affected the crystals healing powers, our wise ancient ancestors surely wouldn’t have altered their gems at all. We know that crystal’s metaphysical powers are not altered by the addition of a hole or any other type of carving, thus the reason our ancestors have carved them into works of art as we still do today. A crystal never looses it’s earth-given energy.
So there you have it, each and every woman is different and has different reasons for using their yoni egg. The only difference is preference and whether you also want to practice vaginal weight lifting. Choose which one you are comfortable with, ladies. Let your intuition guide you. The yoni egg practice is all about personal and womb wellness and healing from the inside with the power of your feminine energy!
