When I first heard about Yoni Steaming I was like….What the….
My immediate thought was women squatting over boiling hot bowls of water, sweating profusely, trying to balance precariously, looking super uncomfortable and contracting a bad case of bacterial vaginitis. Like anything involving my down stairs region I can get squeamish, those that have had trauma while having their babies will understand the resistance. If anyone comes near me with a pair of stirrups or huge glistening scissors, I am off.
The more I researched the more I became intrigued. Simply put, Yoni Steaming is sitting over a pot of herbal steam and letting the steam rise up to cleanse and purify. No falling over, no sweating your bits off, just a relaxing little steam bath for your well deserved Yoni.
When I first heard about Yoni Steaming I was under the impression that it was another holistic fad that had just been created but in actual fact it has been around for centuries and it is a well respected universal, ancient skill that is practised around the globe by many healers.
It has been known as an effective treatment that can help with menstrual cramps, Fibroids, Vaginal infections, cleanse, tone, revitalise the centre and even help with infertility. It is also used to connect with your centre, meditate and help un-block your root chakra.
Well…this wasn’t what I expected at all.
Some women meditate and align themselves with their core while steaming. They connect with their inner being and are able to keep away unwanted negativity surrounding their Yoni. I read that someone that had really bad menstrual cramps gave it a go and the next period she had she was pleasantly surprised that there was no heavy bleeding and her cramps had significantly reduced.
But like anything, if you respect the old laws, don’t overdo it and learn everything you can about the practise of Yoni steaming the correct way, then it can only be a good thing to try out.
Using your head when it comes to something like this is the way forward. Do not steam if you..
- Are on your period
- Are pregnant
- Are suffering from a vaginal infection
- Are having spontaneous heavy bleeding
- Have just been artificially inseminated
- Have an IUD
It is also advised that you find the correct set up for Yoni Steaming or go see professional. A stool, seat that you have customised or a wooden box are the preferred methods because it can be very dangerous to dangle your bits over a pot of steaming water. The pot must be super clean and so does the water that is used.
It was super interesting reading the reports on how it has helped so many women around the world with all different issues. It seems that the more women are talking about their sexuality and actually embracing their inner powers the more that these wonderful ancient practises are making an appearance. The world is finally accepting that there are other ways to heal ourselves and I love that the people in it are becoming more open minded.
